Death Breath

Death Breath is a Dodging and gambling minigame about depression and isolation during the covid pandemic created for the brackys 2021.1 game jam.

In Death Breath you play as a person who is in a high risk group of covid trying to avoid people in order to not get infected, the only problem is the more you avoid people the more depressed you get, so you have to get close to people but every time you do, you have a chance of getting infected.

Rules and Control Schemes:

character 1 - left and right arrow

character 2 - z and x

character 3 - c and v

The point of the game is to gain points which are shown at the top of the screen, whether you're losing or gaining points is determined by the depression meter at the bottom of the screen which constantly goes up and only goes down when you come close to people. each time you come close to a person you have a chance of getting infected, if you're infected then game over.

People with a white coloured aura - Wearing masks and have a low chance of infecting you

people with a red coloured aura - Not wearing masks and have a high chance of infecting you.

Literrary analysis:

* In the game, every time you have to come next to a character you have a chance of getting infected and losing, this part is there to emphasize what it's like to be near people during the pandemic when you or your family members are at high risk from covid.

* The reason i chose to make the player control 3 different characters at the same time was in order to make them feel what it's like having to deal with multiple issues at once, if it's emotional issues such as depression or isolation during the covid pandemic for me at least i had to deal with a lot of stuff.

* in the game all the characters look exactly the same (with the exception of the mask sprite) this is so that people will be able to better reflect upon the characters in the game, (that and this is a game jam and i did not have time to make 30 different character sprites with and without a mask and then make a script to randomize the sprites)
